Puppy Adoption Kit

Your “Puppy Adoption Kit” accompanies every puppy home. It is not provided as an extra “perk” but is included for the well-being and transitioning our puppies. The Adoption Kit will include:

  • blanket that both Mom and Baby have been using.
  • Chew bones. The chewing is calming to your puppy and also satisfies their natural instinct to chew.
  • A sample of the puppy food they have been eating. We are currently feeding, Taste Of The Wild Prairie Puppy Food.
  • A “Jules Jingles” will also go home with you. This is used for bell-training your puppy. Your puppy will be started on the jingles before they go home.
  • All health and growth information along with some additional puppy information will be in the file.

On  top of that, we are ALWAYS here for any questions or concerns you may have. Our goal is to make both you and your new puppy feel as comfortable as possible.

Jule's Jingles

The object of bell-training a puppy is for them to communicate when they need to go outside. First they have to connect going outside with ringing the bell.

Hang your Jule’s Jingles on or close to the door where you intend to let your puppy out. Each time you take your puppy out, Jingle the bells and say,”outside?” Then proceed to take them out. If they appear to be intimidated by the bells, make the Jingles enticing by adding a dab of peanut butter or try to make it more of a game. Let them outside and be sure to reward success with a treat.

For the first week or two puppies should be let out:

  • when they wake up
  • after they eat
  • after they drink
  • if they start to sniff and circle
  • every 20 minutes or so while they are awake

The goal is to teach your puppy to communicate the need to go outside, without the barking and scratching of your walls, doors etc. It's a new concept for your puppy - but if it's clear and consistent, he/she will understand what is expected. And...don't forget the reward.

10 Things a Dog Asks of its Person

  1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful for me. Remember that before you buy me.
  2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
  3. Place your trust in me - it's crucial for my well-being.
  4. Don't be angry at me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your entertainment, and your friends. I only have you.
  5. Talk to me sometimes. Even though I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me.
  6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will not forget.
  7. Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones of your hand, but that I choose not to bite you.
  8. Before you scold me for being "uncooperative" or "obstinate" or "lazy," ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I am not getting the right food, or I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.
  9. Take care of me when I get old; you too will grow old.
  10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say "I can't bear to watch" or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for me if you are there.
